Why do different AIs answer the same question differently?

You may notice that ChatGPT and Claude give different answers, even different viewpoints, to the same question. This is normal, for three main reasons:

1. Different training data and methods. Each company uses different sources, training approaches and tuning goals.
2. Different safety and value choices. Boundaries and response policies on sensitive or controversial topics differ.
3. Answers are partly random. Even the same AI may word things differently if you ask again.

How to use it with confidence

For important questions, cross-check with several AIs and then verify against authoritative sources. This is also why many people subscribe to more than one AI.
