How to ask so AI works better

2026-10-011 min read

The same AI gives very different results depending on how you ask. Remember four things:

  1. Say who you are and what you want. “I'm an e-commerce operator writing a social post for a new product” beats “write some copy”.
  2. Be specific. Length, tone, format, audience — the more concrete, the better.
  3. Give examples. Paste a sample of the style you like.
  4. Follow up if unhappy. “Shorter”, “more casual”, “give me 3 versions” — refining step by step is more realistic than perfection in one go.

A handy template

“Act as [role] and help me with [task]. Context: [situation]. Requirements: [format / length / tone].”
