What is an AI assistant? Understand it in a minute

2026-10-011 min read

Tools such as ChatGPT and Claude are built on “large language models”. Think of one as an assistant that has read a huge amount of text: you ask in everyday language, and it generates a fluent, useful answer based on patterns it has learned.

What is it good at?

  • Writing and polishing: e-mails, copy, reports, summaries.
  • Learning and explaining: making complex ideas simple.
  • Organizing and analyzing: summarizing material and extracting key points.
  • Coding help: writing code, finding bugs, explaining code.

What to watch out for

It can sometimes state wrong things with confidence, especially specific data, names and legal provisions. Always verify important content yourself — treat it as an efficient assistant, not an infallible authority.
