How to export your Claude data

2026-10-121 min read

If you want to back up your chat history, or keep your material before switching accounts, you can use Claude's official data export feature. It is provided by the official service; the steps are below (menu positions follow the current official version).

Steps

  1. Log in to Claude and open “Settings” from your avatar.
  2. Open the “Privacy” page.
  3. Find “Export data” and click it.
  4. The service sends an e-mail with a download link to the account's e-mail address.
  5. Click the link and save the archive to your computer.

What you get

Usually an archive containing files in formats such as JSON, with your conversations and more. You can open them with a text editor, a browser or a dedicated viewer.

Notes

  • The download link usually expires — download it soon after receiving the e-mail.
  • The exported files contain your conversations; keep them safe and do not send them around.
  • If you use a ready-made account, confirm the usage scope and validity with support before exporting.
  • E-mail not received? Check spam, confirm the account's e-mail address, and try again after a few minutes.
