Getting started with ChatGPT / Codex
This guide covers what to do after you receive a ChatGPT subscription (top-up or ready-made account): log in, check that the subscription is active, and start using it. The official interface changes from time to time; names below follow the current official interface.
Step 1: Log in
- Open the official ChatGPT website, or use the official mobile app / desktop app.
- Choose how to log in: for a top-up, use your usual login method; for a ready-made account, use the details support gave you, and enter the verification code if e-mail verification is requested.
- If a welcome tour appears after logging in, you can skip it.
Step 2: Check the subscription is active
Click your avatar (bottom left or top right) and look at the plan name shown, or open the account / subscription page in Settings. If it still shows the free plan, log out and log back in, wait a few minutes and refresh; if it is still wrong, send a screenshot to support.
Step 3: Start using it
- Everyday chat: type in the box — say who you are, what you want and in which format.
- Upload files: documents, images and more (supported types and sizes follow the official rules); ask it to summarize, translate or analyze.
- Switch models: there is usually a model selector above the chat; different models are good at different things.
About Codex
Codex is the coding-oriented feature inside ChatGPT. Whether it is available and where to find it depends on your plan and the official rollout. When available, you can hand it a repository or a code snippet to read, modify and test. Always review and test the code it gives you before using it in production.
Reminders
- Never send passwords, keys or private customer data to an AI.
- With a ready-made account, log in and check it promptly and keep it safe as support advises.
